  Katie Myhre outscored the entire Wrenshall Wrens on Thursday night when the senior hit for a career high 40 points, leading her Barnum Bombers to an 86-25 victory in girls basketball in Wrenshall.

Bomber Use Long Range Attack To Defeat Denfeld

  Barnum Senior Katie Myhre made sure that the Bomber’s girls basketball team was not going to suffer back-to-back losses on Tuesday night. After falling for the second time this season to Mountain Iron-Buhl on Saturday, Myhre hit nine 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points and the Bombers came away with a 78-45 win on the road at Duluth Denfeld.

Barnum Girls Use Second Half Surge To Put Away Rebels

  Both Barnum and Moose Lake-Willow River have been having good years in girls basketball. Through 13 games the Rebels were 10-3, while Barnum was 10-2 through 12 games. On Tuesday night the two schools took to the hard-court in Moose Lake with the Bombers coming through with a convincing 66-39 win over the Rebels.

Barnum Girls Quickly Back On Winning Track

  Barnum rebounded from a loss to Isle right before the Christmas break with a Tuesday night 70-25 victory over Two Harbors.  The Bombers had four players in double figure scoring led by the 22 points of Daron Mainville, the 16 points of Claire Rodgers, 14 of Claudia Turner and 11 from Katie Myhre.

Second Half Run Leads Barnum Girls Over Grand Rapids

  The Barnum Bombers used a strong second half to overcome a halftime deficit as they trailed 24-21, to come back and defeat the Thunderhawks by a score of 58-50 at Barnum High School on Monday evening. The win was the fourth consecutive victory the Bombers have had over the Thunderhawks.

  A year ago the Barnum girls basketball team dominated Mountain Iron-Buhl and came away with a 36 point win. Monday night was a bit of a different story with the Rangers coming away with a 10-point win at home over the Bombers. Final score; MIB 61, Barnum 51.

Barnum Girls Open The Season With A Win

  The Barnum Bombers opened the 2011-2012 season with a victory on the road Tuesday night in Cromwell with a score of 83-36. The Bombers who are playing back in section seven for the first time since 2006 are looking to return to the state girls basketball tournament after falling last season in the Section 5A Championship game in Crosby.

  CROSBY- A once in a lifetime type of performance came up just short Friday night as the Barnum Bombers fall in overtime to the Sebeka Trojans in the Section 5A championship game by a score of 78-70. Jessica Newman had a night most players can only dream about, finishing with 42 points in the loss for the Bombers.

  It was another outstanding night for Jessica Newman and Katie Myhre as the Bombers knocked off the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 83-37 at Carlton High School Monday night. The Bulldogs played it very close the first several minutes, but it was a late first half run of 23-2 that propelled the Bombers to their 20th win on the season.

  When three point shooters have their shot dialed in it can be a thing of beauty. Such was the case Saturday when Katie Myhre hit a total of seven baskets from beyond the arc to lead the Barnum Bombers to a 77-43 victory over New Life Academy. In doing so Myhre also reached the elusive 1000 career points plateau in only her junior year.

  The Barnum boys and girls basketball teams continued down the same path on Thursday night as both Bombers teams defeated Pine City. The boys knocked off the Dragons by a final score of 53-38, and the Lady Bombers hammered the Dragons by a final score of 96-33 as both teams stay unbeaten on the season.

  Cook County used a little bit of luck at the end of the game against Barnum in boys basketball on Friday night. Barnum's leading scorer Jacob Naslund launched a last second shot the length of the court that nearly went in, but instead bounced harmlessly away, and the Vikings came out with a 50-49 win over the Bombers.

  With four players in double figure scoring the Barnum Bombers had way too much depth for the Aitkin Gobblers in boys basketball on Thursday night as the Bombers cruised to an 82-62 victory.  Jake Naslund scored 22 points and Rodney Mullen Jr. added 20 points, including six 3-pointers, in leading the Bombers to the win.

Then, there are nights like this one where everyone took a backseat to one outstanding player.  Former Barnum Standout Katrina Newman gashed the Bemidji State defense en-route to a career-high 30 points in a 74-54 UMD victory on Tuesday night.

  It’s been a never-say-die kind of team showing up early in the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s basketball season.  The Bulldogs fought off a four-point deficit with 12 seconds remaining in overtime, freshman guard Jessica Newman knocking down the game-winning jumper as time expired to send UMD to an NSIC-opener win over Minnesota Crookston on the road, 73-72.

  Over the last several years the landscape of girls high school basketball has changed where as a group of girls from Barnum High School did the Northland proud by capturing a state girls championship. They also made several trips to the state tournament and won numerous awards for several of those players, but a pair of sisters stood out above the rest. Once again Katrina Newman and Jessica Newman are positioned for success and reunited as part of the UMD women’s basketball program.

Bombers Prove Worthy Of States #1 Ranking

  BARNUM- Friday night at the Barnum High School it was the Bombers, Minnesota’s number one ranked team in Class A, and coming off a state championship in 2010 facing their toughest challenge of the young 2010-2011 season. It was a test made possible when the states eighth rated team make the long trip north that would end with the Bombers answering any questions why they are ranked number one. The Bombers defeated the Raiders of Fulda by a final score of 69-59.
