Carlton Boys Come Up Just Short In Re-Match With McGregor

  For the second time this season, the Carlton Bulldogs and the McGregor Mercuries met in a Polar League conference battle and the results the same as they were a month ago. It was McGregor coming out on top by a score of 62-56. The first time these two teams met it was a triple overtime affair with McGregor winning a 79-75 thriller.

Lakeview Christian Tops Carlton 67-56

  There was a lot of excitement building in the city of Carlton on Monday afternoon as the buildup to see one of Minnesota's best players was about to happen when Lakeview Christian Academy hit the floor against the Carlton boys in high school basketball. The excitement ebbed when it was found out prior to the game that Anders Broman would not play due to the flu. Instead, his younger brother Bjorn Broman took the scoring reigns and led the Lions to a 67-56 win over the Bulldogs.

  When Adam Bailey played sports at Carlton High School he was a no-nonsense type of guy who made his mark with hard work and effort. Using the same attributes he coached his Bulldog boys basketball team to their first win of the season on Friday night; a 50-38 victory over neighborhood rival Wrenshall in a battle for the little brown jug.

Carlton Disc Park Hosts Discraft ACE Tournament

  One Northland sport which is quickly gaining popularity is disc golf, and on Saturday a disc golf tournament came to the area. The Carlton Disc Park played host to an ACE tournament sponsored by disc manufacturer Discraft and Carlton Bike Rentals. The event drew local competitors and athletes from as far away as the Twin Cities.

The Dogs are 5-0 on the season and have three blowout wins to their credit, plus an impressive 1-0 victory over Two Harbors. Even more impressive is they have yet to give up a run; earned, unearned, or otherwise.

  Mat Lund won both the 400 and 1600 meter events for the Carlton Bulldogs during the Eagle invite at East Central on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs also won the 4x400 relay.

  CARLTON - The spring softball season couldn’t have started out better for new Head Coach Denny Johnson and the Carlton Bulldogs softball team if they would have been allowed to write the script. The Lady Bulldogs have yet to give up a run and are 2-0 after defeating Silver Bay by a 10-0 score on Tuesday.

  CARLTON- On paper it looked as the Carlton Bulldogs were huge underdogs against the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels Friday night. When the Bulldogs top offensive player fouled out early in the second half, many thought the Rebels would blow away Carlton. But the Bulldogs held strong and battled until the end as the Rebels picked up the conference victory by a score of 62-48.

  For the second time this season the South Ridge Panthers and the Carlton Bulldogs have met in boys basketball. The latest meeting was Tuesday night with a similar result as the Panthers improved to 6-2 on the season with a 58-44 win at home behind the 20 points of Dan Wood and the 19 points of Kody Karppinen.

Lady Bulldogs Win Squeaker Against McGregor

  CARLTON- The Carlton Lady’s basketball team picked up their second win of the season as the Bulldogs squeaked out a 36-35 win at home Monday night. The Bulldogs, who entered Monday’s Polar League match-up, were hoping to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs who led by five points with less than 18 seconds to play withstood two late baskets and a turnover to hold on and win by one point.

  Thing slowed at times to a snail’s pace in Thursday's Carlton versus Chisholm girls basketball game. A total of 64 free throws were taken and several Carlton starters fouled out as the Bluestreaks came away with an 11-point win, 53-42 over the Bulldogs.

  DULUTH - Rachel Diers and Cassandra Trandahl scored just 7 and 15 minutes into the Section 7a section finals for Chisago Lakes to put Esko-Carlton into a hole that proved a bit too much to dig out of. The Wildcats captured the section title and a trip to the state tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Eskomos.

  CARLTON – The first play from scrimmage was a dandy for the Carlton Bulldogs when Chaise Jokinen bounced a run play outside and scored on a 66 yard run. Jokinen scored again on a long run on the Bulldogs fourth play from scrimmage, in the end it wasn’t quite enough as the Bulldogs fell to Cook County by a score of 32-29.
