Cromwell Girls Come Up Just Short In Nail-Biter

  The Cromwell Cardinals fell behind early but came back strong, only to see their comeback effort fall just a tad short as the Cardinals fell to South Sore by a score of 69-67. The Cardinals fell behind 11-0 to start the game but fought their way back by hitting some big 3-point baskets, hitting a total of 14 in the contest.

  The Cromwell Cardinals found themselves trailing the Wrenshall Wrens 25-20 at halftime in a Polar League battle at Cromwell high school Monday and it would be a strong second half led by Jake Ramberg as the Cardinals knock off the Wrens by a final score of 56-48.

Minneapolis- In what would best be described as an unbelievable dream the Cromwell-Wright Cardinals overcame a 2-4 start to the regular season and ran the table as the Cardinals captured their fourth state 9-Man Football title Friday. The Cardinals knocked off the Burros of Lanesboro 49-42. Cromwell-Wright and their senior quarterback Jordan Suhonen set four and tied a fifth prep bowl record Friday in the seven point victory.

Cromwell Heads Back To The State Tournament

  MCGREGOR – The line often heard from coaches and players is that we need to turn our season around. A lot of time it is just something to say amidst a long losing streak. Not so with the Cromwell Cardinals. The Cards started the season 2-4 and faced their final two regular season games as well as all playoff games on the road. Since that point Cromwell has reeled off four straight victories, the latest of which being a 21-0 shutout over #1 seed McGregor. With the victory Cromwell captured the Section 5 9-man championship, sending them to the state tournament for a second straight season.

Cromwell Football Finishes Regular Season With A Win

  Tuesday night was the last regular season game of the year for the Cromwell Cards football team. Every coach is hoping that this is the time of year their team is peaking as playoffs approach this weekend. It appears as if that is exactly what is happening with Cromwell. After spanking Floodwood last week, the Cards dismantled Hill City 36-0 to improve to 7-1 overall.

Local Schools Compete in Nemadji Invite

Several local schools competed Thursday in the Nemadji Invitational at the Nemadji Golf Course last week. The event featured over 500 runners in three different levels--from middle school to junior varsity to varsity competition in both boys and girls divisions. Local schools participating in the event included Albrook, Carlton, Esko, Cloquet, Proctor, and Cromwell-Floodwood.

  Moose Lake- With the Rebels and the Cardinals tied 28-28 at halftime of the girls Polar League matchup Thursday night in Moose Lake; the Rebels halftime motivation speech was one of inspiration. The Rebels came out in the second half and blew past the Cardinals as they scored 30 points in the first nine minutes of the second half en-route to a 65-48 win Thursday night at home.

  The Cromwell Cardinals girls basketball team evened their season record Monday as the Cardinals defeated the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 52-41. The Cardinals took a early first half lead and went on to win by eleven points. Cromwell led at halftime by a score of 26-14. Carlton outscored the Cardinals in the second half but it was not enough.

DULUTH - In what could be described as meeting your demons head on and defeating them, Cromwell quarterback Jordan Suhonen ran for 224 yards and 5 touchdowns at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth. The tremendous performance helped the Cardinals to a 36-6 win over Mountain Iron-Buhl in state quarterfinal football action.

  With both Cromwell and Esko boys basketball teams coming off of overtime wins in the last week--the Cards winning a double overtime affair at McGregor and Esko notching an overtime win against Denfeld--it looked like things were heading in that direction again when the two teams met in Cromwell on Friday night. That opportunity did not come to be when the Eskomos hit a three point shot at the buzzer to pick up the 56-53 win.

Cromwell Sees Season Slip Away at Midfield

  Jordan Suhonen had been the leader of the Cromwell Cardinal offense all season. His quiet but effective role as a leader of this State Tournament team ended at midfield Friday night late in the second quarter with a broken leg. Suhonen, the team’s leading rusher and passer went down after an 11 yard run which gave the Cardinals a first down at the Ada-Borup 49 yard line.
