  The Esko Eskomos lost as Sam Humes nailed a shot with seven seconds remaining in regulation to give the Denfeld Hunters a 55-54 win Tuesday night on the road. The Eskomos, who had trailed most of the game, went ahead late in the game on two free throws from Marc Peterson but the shot by Humes gave the Hunters the one point victory.

  Savannah Trapp scored a game-high 17 points and the Esko girls easily downed Two Harbors 59-31 on Thursday night in high school basketball.

  Esko relied on the solid inside play of Savannah Trapp to pull out a 46-36 victory on the road in Hermantown. Trapp finished with a 15 point, nine rebound, and three block night in leading the Eskomos to the win.

  WILLOW RIVER - Jackson Lindquist has accomplished a lot in his time on the Esko boys basketball team including scoring his 1000th point earlier this year. One thing Lindquist had never done in his time on the varsity team was beat the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels. That all changed Saturday night in Willow River when he hit a jump shot with four seconds left in regulation to give the Eskomos a 61-59 win.

  ESKO - It isn’t every day that a highly touted event meets, let alone exceeds its lofty billing; but that is exactly what happened when the 8-0 Esko Eskomos met the 10-1 Braham Bombers for a girls basketball matchup Tuesday night in Esko. In the end, Braham was a mere two points better than the Eskomos, squeaking out a 56-54 win.

  Jackson Lindquist reached a milestone on Thursday night; the senior guard who needed only two points to reach the 1000 point mark did it in style a mere :38 seconds into the game. Lindquist drained a 3-pointer that gave him 1001 points for his career and also gave the Eskomos a lead as they picked up their sixth straight win by a score of 70-54.

If not for a last second basket in the opening game of the year the Esko Eskomos could be 5-0 instead of 4-1. The Eskomos reeled off their fourth straight win Monday night in a sectional battle against the Deer River Warriors and the Eskomos knocked off the previous unbeaten Warriors by a score of 67-45.

  The Esko Eskomos once again captured the Esko Coaches Classic basketball tournament at Esko High School over the weekend. The 32nd annual event was won by the Eskomos as they defeated the Hermantown Hawks in the championship game by a score of 44-34.

  Some teams thrive with the long ball while some teams die from it; Tuesday night the Esko Eskomos showed they can thrive from downtown as the Eskomos nailed 17 three pointers in a 79-51 win over Duluth Marshall at Esko High School in this sectional battle Tuesday night.

  ESKO- The Esko Eskomos had defeated the Hermantown Hawks the past two seasons and were looking to make it three wins in a row; but the Hermantown Hawks spoiled that idea as Spencer Johnson hit the game winning shot with five seconds remaining to give the Hawks a 72-71 win over Esko at Esko High School on Tuesday night.

  The Esko Eskomos improved to 16-1 Thursday night as the Eskomos defeated the McGregor Mercuries in a Polar League match-up at Esko High School. The Eskomos rolled to a 68-41 win as they improve to 7-0 in conference play.

  The Esko Eskomos improved to 15-1 Monday night with an impressive 61-25 victory over the Cloquet Lumberjacks in this non-conference battle. The Eskomos roared out to a big first half lead and were never tested as they pick up their seventh straight win.

  The Esko boys basketball team used a long-range bombing attack to defeat the Mora Mustangs 79-39 on Tuesday night. Esko made 14 3-point shots and tossed up 29 total long rangers in the game while streaking to the easy win.

  Savannah Trapp scored her 1,000th point and the Esko girls basketball team, ranked #5 in the state, handled Proctor 77-29 on Monday night in Esko.  For the night Trapp finished with 31 points and she added six rebounds four blocks for the Eskomos who improved to 11-1 on the season. Proctor managed just 10 first half points against the Eskomos.

  A big first half by the Esko girls basketball team helped the Eskomos take a 60-31 win on the road at Floodwood last night. Esko held a 35-18 halftime edge and rolled to the victory.

  The Esko boys basketball team suffered a tough first round loss at the Wood City Classic in Cloquet on Tuesday. The Eskomos saw a tight game get away from them and fell 65-49 to Blake. On Wednesday the Eskomos made sure there was no repeat of the opening game by trouncing East Central 94-42 in their second game of the tournament held annually in Cloquet.

  The Esko Eskomos continued to march on and stay unbeaten after dropping their first game of the season Tuesday night as the Eskomos knocked off long time rival Carlton in the Polar League contest by a score of 77-51 at Carlton High School.

  Congratulations to the Esko 7th Grade Girl’s Travel Team on their recent first place finish in the 20th Annual Spirit of the North Youth Basketball tournament hosted by DYBA (Duluth Youth Basketball Association) on November 19th and 20th. The Esko girl’s took first place in the Division One bracket, defeating Cottage Grove, Stillwater, Waconia, and Roseville.

  The Esko Eskomos boys and girls basketball teams were both victorious Thursday night over Cook County in a boys and girls doubleheader on the Coaches versus Cancer night at Esko High School. The girls basketball team defeated the Vikings 57-41 in the first game of the night and the Esko boys defeated the Vikings by a score of 59-40.

  Esko opened the season with a one-point heartbreaking loss to Hermantown early this week. Friday night the Eskomos shook it off quite well and romped to an 86-30 win over Silver Bay; led by a 25-point effort by Jackson Lindquist and an 18-point night by Marc Peterson.

  The Esko Eskomos improved to 3-0 on the season with a 53-35 over the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks Monday night in Grand Rapids. The Eskomos jumped out to an early 31-13 lead at half time, and cruised to the non conference victory.

  The Esko Eskomos fell Saturday in the girl’s consolation finals at the Xcel energy center as the Eskomos closed out another very successful season. Friday the Eskomos defeated Visitation by a score of 3-2 but the fell Saturday to Sauk Center in three straight games to finish sixth overall in the girls 2011 state class AA tournament.
