  Prior to the start of the high school volleyball season the Esko Eskomos were on everyone's short list of top teams. The Eskomos continue to prove they are among the top teams in the area with a thundering 25-10, 25-22 and 25-12 win over Northwestern of Maple, Wisconsin last night.

  The Esko boys and girls cross country teams showed their early season strength on Thursday by winning their respective divisions of the Babbitt Lions/Gene Ritsche Memorial Run.

The Esko-Carlton girls soccer team broke a 1-1 halftime tie to pick up the season opening 3-2 home win against Proctor in the season opener for both teams.

  As the summer enters the Dog Days of August there is a celebration of sorts happening in Esko. A 9-10 year old Little League team called the Esko Nitro captured the District 3 Championship and moved to the state tournament where they finished in second place.

  ESKO - A quick start helped the Esko Eskomo football team gain their first win of the season when they ran past Cook County 30-6 in Esko on Friday night.

  CLOQUET - In a rematch of last year's sectional final game the Esko-Carlton girls soccer team came away with a 3-2 win over the Cloquet Lumberjacks in Cloquet on Tuesday night in Cloquet. Caitlyn Lilly provided the spark the Eskomos needed to beat the defending section champion Lumberjacks.

  After receiving numerous awards during the playing season, Megan Johnson a sophomore on the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College softball team, was named Academic All-American for the National Junior College Athletic Association this past week.

  Two local basketball teams had a productive summer by participating at the Pacesetter Sweet Sixteen girls basketball state tournament held last weekend in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
