FDLTCC's Anderson Wins Bench Press Competition

  Many people wonder what a college President does during his spare time. Does he fish, hunt, play golf, do odds and ends around the house or something else? In the case of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College President Larry Anderson that something else is different than just about any college President you'll ever find. Anderson, who is 59 years old, is one of the top power lifters at his age group in the county.

Barnum Loses Star Athlete and Person

  A recent Barnum star athlete who has been battling cancer has passed away. Stuart McCoy, who was the subject of numerous news stories this past year regarding his cancer, died on Tuesday at Solvay Hospice House at the age of 18.

Lexvold Outlasts Langenbrunner to Win Cloquet Invite

CLOQUET- Upon entering Sunday's final round of the 79th annual Cloquet Invitational Jamie Langenbrunner had high hopes of defending his title on his home course. However, Brent Lexvold from Apple Valley withstood the four way tie entering Sunday’s final round to prevail and give him his first championship at Cloquet Country Club.

Northland Runners Break Grandma's Marathon Record

  DULUTH - Last weekend marked the 34th running of Grandma's Marathon in Duluth. It also was the 20th Annual Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon as well as the 17th Annual William Irvin 5-K Run/Walk.

Last weekend, Augusta National Golf Course hosted the first of the golf majors. Those of you that watched were treated to some of the best golf we have seen in a long time. For those of you that know me very well I am a golf nut a golf fanatic you may say, the week of the Masters I normally log about 50-60 hours online, reading or watching on television everything I can about this treasured tournament.

Korman To Coach Carlton Football

  NSO has learned that Cloquet attorney Dennis Korman has been hired to coach the Carlton High School football team this fall. The job became vacant when former coach, Scott Battaglia, took a job in Willow River earlier this summer. Korman confirmed his hiring on Wednesday night.

AlBrook Announces New Football Coach

  Fans of the AlBrook/Cotton football team will have a whole new era ushered in as Dan DuPay takes over the reins as head coach after the retirement of longtime Falcon coach Larry Anderson. DuPay, who played high school football at Hermantown, also played college football at Valley City State University in North Dakota.

Nisius Resigns From UWS Accepts UMD Head Coaching Position

  Paul Nisius, the head coach of the Yellowjacket cross country and track and field teams, has resigned his position at UW-Superior to accept the head men's track and field coach position at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Nisius' final day at UW-Superior will be Friday, August 13.

  Head Coach Roger Plachta of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets softball team announced Tuesday his upcoming recruiting class for 2011. He announced six players joining his team next season including four incoming freshman and one transfer. Plachta also announced his captains for next season as well.

Patenaude Receives Prestigious Volleyball Award

  Longtime Northland volleyball club coach Mike Patenaude was recently named the recipient of the 2010 Robert L. Lindsay Meritorious Award. The Lindsay Award is given annually in appreciation of members of USA Volleyball that demonstrate outstanding service and commitment to furthering and enhancing the game of volleyball.

FDLTCC Name New Athletic Director And Coaches

  CLOQUET, MN– Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College announced today the hiring of two new members of the Thunder athletics department. Keith Turner will fill a newly created position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach/Director of Student Preparedness.  Laura Sylvester has been named the Head Coach of the Thunder Volleyball program. Both staff members will lead their respective programs into the 2010 fall sports seasons.
