  CLOQUET, MN– Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College announced today the hiring of two new members of the Thunder athletics department. Keith Turner will fill a newly created position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach/Director of Student Preparedness.  Laura Sylvester has been named the Head Coach of the Thunder Volleyball program. Both staff members will lead their respective programs into the 2010 fall sports seasons.

The FDLTCC's first volleyball season officially came to an end recently when the Thunder finished their last four matches at home. Although the season record was not where coaches would have wanted, it was a very productive year. The girls finished with an overall record of 2-14.

Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Volleyball libero Jenny Pederson, a sophomore from Saginaw, was named "Libero of the Week" in the Northern Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference for games played through Saturday, October 10.

The FDLTCC Thunder’s inaugural season started out with such high hopes due to their first game victory, but since they have found it a struggle to stay on the winning track. Their struggle continued on Wednesday as the Thunder fell to Itasca CC in Grand Rapids. The Vikings swept them in three straight games, dropping the Thunder's season record to 1-4.

  Coming off of two straight losses, the FDLTCC Thunder volleyball team seeks to get back on the winning track tonight as they host the Vermillion Voyageurs for the second time this season. FDLTCC dropped to Rainy River last week and to Hibbing CC on Friday night. The game will be held at the Lester Jack Briggs Cultural Center                                                  Gymnasium at 6:30 pm.

The FLDTCC Thunder Volleyball team opened up their inaugural volleyball season with a win on Saturday at home as they downed Vermillion Community College. The Thunder beat the Ironwomen  3 games to 1 at the Lester Jack Briggs Cultural Center Gymnasium on the FLDTCC campus.

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Athletics programs announced the roster of incoming student-athletes who plan to play for one of the Thunder teams starting with the 2009-2010 seasons. The roster includes numerous local and Minnesota student-athletes, as well as several out-of-state recruits.

  The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College women's volleyball team was welcomed by first year head coach Laura Sylvester earlier this week. The Thunder met the media during a practice session on Wednesday afternoon with a roster that is chock full of local talent.

  The Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder volleyball team returned for home play Wednesday after an absence from the Lester Jack Briggs cultural center and gymnasium.

The FDLTCC Thunder volleyball team dropped their third straight series Wednesday night. The loss to Vermillion Community College came as a surprise to the Thunder because they beat them handily a little over a week ago. The Thunder and the Voyageurs met in a rematch at the Lester Jack Briggs Cultural Center Gymnasium. Even after a fast start by the Thunder, it was Vermillion who would come away with the win.

  The FDLTCC volleyball team was looking to follow up on their first win to start their first season. However, the Voyageurs from Rainy River Community College would spoil the Thunders hope to go 2-0 on the season.

It's finally time for the ball to go over the net at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet. The Thunder Volleyball team opens their 2009 season with a team meeting and practice at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10.
