  If there was any question as to whether the Hermantown Hawks soccer team deserved their #3 seeding in the state Class A soccer tournament those questions were answered with their 5-1 pounding of Mankato West. The Hawks were led by a spectacular effort from forward Charlie Comnick, who scored four goals in leading his team to victory.

CEC To Honor Tucker, Retire Jersey

A year ago the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys soccer team was riding a strong wave of success. Much of that success was due to the great goaltending and attitude of Esko senior Jordan Tucker. Tucker died tragically in his sleep just weeks after the high school soccer season ended and the three communities spent days, weeks and months morning this exceptional young man. This weekend the three communities will come together to honor Tucker during an event at Rol Bromberg Field in Cloquet.

  A late goal by Charlie Comnick was just enough offense for the Hermantown Hawks on Thursday night. Playing in the Section 7A boys soccer final against North Branch, Comnick took a crossing pass and booted it past Vikings goalie Austin Holmes in the 69th minute giving the Hawks the title and a state tournament berth.

CEC Beats Eveleth-Gilbert Advances in Playoffs

Thursday marked the start of Section 7A boys soccer playoff action with the CEC Lumberjacks getting a 3-0 win over visiting Eveleth-Gilbert. The Jacks netted all three of their goals in the first half and then cruised to the 3-0 victory over the #12 seeded Golden Bears.

The CEC Boys soccer team traveled to Duluth Central on Saturday and came up a bit short. Central's Derek Johnson gave the Jacks a bit of a problem. Johnson’s hat trick was the difference in the game as Duluth Central defeated CEC by a 4-2 margin.

The C-E-C boys soccer team came out firing on all cylinders in their home opener held Monday evening at Bromberg field in Cloquet. The hosting Lumberjacks beat the Superior Spartans 3-0, picking up their first win of the season.

Both the CEC Lumberjacks and the Proctor Rails got a little something out of their season openers with a 1-1 overtime tie. While they would each have preferred to come away with the win, both can say they are still undefeated.
