  CLOQUET - In a rematch of last year's sectional final game the Esko-Carlton girls soccer team came away with a 3-2 win over the Cloquet Lumberjacks in Cloquet on Tuesday night in Cloquet. Caitlyn Lilly provided the spark the Eskomos needed to beat the defending section champion Lumberjacks.

  Making their first trip to the class A girls soccer state tournament semi-finals since 2002, the lady Jacks played one of their best games of the year. However, it wasn’t quite enough as the Jacks fell 2-1 to Blake School Monday at the Metrodome.

Esko-Carlton girls and Hermantown boys and girls soccer programs gained state recognition when players from both teams were named to the 2009 Class A All-State team at the Minnesota State High School League’s annual pre-tournament banquet on Sunday.

  Cloquet and Esko-Carlton girls soccer teams met at Public Schools Stadium Thursday evening with a trip to the state tournament on the line. It was the second year in a row the top two teams in Section 7A met in the finals. This year, however, Cloquet’s opponent was the cross-town rival Esko-Carlton Eskomos. Last year, the Lumberjack’s dropped a heartbreaker in a shootout. This time, only 80 minutes were needed to decide a champion with Cloquet winning the game 2-1.

Looking toward the sky, it appeared the weather would clear up for the start of Tuesday’s Section 7A semi-final girls soccer matchup between the Esko-Carlton Eskomos and Duluth Denfeld. However, the crowd was misled as the game started amidst a downpour. The weather didn’t dampen the Eskomos desirefor victory,however, as they went on to beat the Hunters 2-0 on a rain soaked field in Esko.

Saturday brought the second round of Section 7A girls soccer playoff action to the Northland. Cloquet easily passed through the first round of playoffs due to North Lakes Academy's forfeit.  This time, with the help of two goals from Emily Johnson, the Jacks won their second round game with a 3-0 victory over Hibbing/Chisholm.

  The fourth-seeded Hermantown girls’ soccer team knew coming into their match against the fifth-seeded Chisago Lakes squad that they would need to play a better game than they did in September when they were defeated by the Wildcats 1-0. This time it was the Hawks who came out of the 1-0 game victorious

  MINNEAPOLIS – Coming off of a tough 2-1 loss to Blake School on Monday, the Cloquet Lumberjacks came out and played inspired soccer to beat La Crescent 1-0 and capture 3rd place in the 2009 Minnesota State Girls Class A Soccer Tournament.

  Winning games is always the goal going into any game, but when you are a young team getting better is the first step in that direction. That step appeared to be what was happening with the Cloquet girls soccer team on Saturday, losing to a very good Academy of Holy Angels team 1-0.

  CLOQUET - Starting a new season after losing 10 seniors to graduation is hard enough, opening your season against a quality high-powered opponent is even harder. The Cloquet girls soccer team found out just how hard that can be on Friday, dropping their opening match to Rosemount by a score of 4-0.

  CLOQUET - Cloquet senior Katie Pappas has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan. Pappas, a three sport athlete, has chosen to play soccer for the Huskies and head coach Michelle Jacob.

  ROSEVILLE – After winning the Section 7A championship last week, Cloquet girls soccer head coach Dustin Randall told NSO in an interview, “I don’t think we are ready to be done yet, there is still some fight left in us.” With only 39.8 seconds left in regulation, Haley Bassett proved her coach right by scoring the game tying goal, keeping the Lumberjacks season alive and sending the game into overtime. The Jacks would hang on and eventually win the wild affair in a shootout 2-1 over East Ridge High School.

  Talk before the Cloquet versus Hermantown Section 7A semi-final girl's soccer game centered around the weather. Would the weather, which was cold and rainy, be an equalizer for the Hawks or would the Lumberjacks depth and superior ability prevail? In the end, the Jacks proved to be just too much for the Hawks and Cloquet won 4-0,  never seriously threatened by the Hawks.

  Lately, describing the Esko-Carlton girls as "dominating" may be an understatement.  They have scored 31 goals in their past three games, while giving up only two. Saturday’s Section 7A quarterfinal matchup with Two Harbors was no exception, with the hosting Eskomos scoring five goals in the first half on the way to a 5-1 quarterfinal victory.

All-Conference girls soccer selections have been announced. Several NSO area players received top honors, with Cloquet dominating the first team Lake Superior Conference roster.

The Section 7A girls soccer seedings were announced on Friday, with the Cloquet Lumberjacks getting the number one seed. Playoff action begins October 15th with the Jacks hosting North Lakes Acadamy. Esko/Carlton received the number two seed and will play host to #15 seed Eveleth-Gilbert on October 15th a well.

The Cloquet girls soccer team is on quite a high. The Jacks have reeled off nine straight wins and find themselves with a gaudy 12-2-1 record on the season. Game number nine in that roll came last night when the Jacks beat Duluth Central 6-1 on the road at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth.

  CLOQUET - Tuesday’s girls' soccer game between Cloquet and Grand Rapids had a lopsided look to it from the start. Grand Rapids came in with just two wins on the season, while Cloquet has lost just two games this year, both of which were to high quality Twin Cities teams. The game lived up to its billing with Cloquet getting goals from six different people in the 8-0 win.

  Amanda Bergstedt has been on an offensive blitz over the past week. On Thursday afternoon, the Esko-Carlton star forward stayed on pace with three more goals in the Eskomos 4-0 win over Duluth Marshall in girls soccer.
