After four years of coming closer and closer, the Esko Eskomo girls track team won the Minnesota Class A True Team Title on Saturday in Stillwater. Esko beat out second place Blue Earth by 17 points to win its first ever State True Team Championship.

June 4 Two Cloquet runners and a pair of Hermantown field athletes saw their efforts bear fruit in the Section 7AA track and field finals in Grand Rapids on Saturday. 2nd Annual Lumberjack Laps Set For Saturday
May 18 The second annual Lumberjack Laps Fun Run is set for Saturday May 21st at the Cloquet High School Track at 10:00 am on that Saturday morning. The Fun Run is a major fundraiser for the Washington Elementary School’s playground and technology fund. Read more
Esko Girls Win Section 7A True Team For The 5th Straight Year
May 13 Two of the hardest things to accomplish in high school sports are domination and consistency. The Esko girls track team seems to have cornered the market on both. Tuesday in Holdingford the Eskomo girls won their fifth straight Section 7a True Team Track title. Read more
ML-WR Boys Win Sap Run Meet
May 12 Barnum High School played host to the Senior High Sap Run track meet on Thursday, which featured a total of eight different schools attending. Moose Lake-Willow River was the big winner on the Boys side, scoring 116 points, outpacing second place Barnum High School and Aitkin High School who tied for second with 61 points each. Cook County finished first in the girls portion with Cromwell finishing in second, just a half of a point better than third place ML-WR. Read more
Brandon King Finishes First In Hooterz Fun Run In Cloquet
May 7 CLOQUET - Under a rare sunny sky in Cloquet, runners, walkers, young folks in strollers and dogs all got together for the annual Hooterz Fun Run on Saturday morning. A total of 230 people participated in the event to support breast cancer. Read more

Apr 22 Mat Lund won both the 400 and 1600 meter events for the Carlton Bulldogs during the Eagle invite at East Central on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs also won the 4x400 relay. Read more
MSHSL Adds Wheelchair Events To Track & Field
Feb 25 Wheelchair-bound high school athletes will be racing around tracks this spring while still others will be putting the shot. The Minnesota State High School League is adding three track and field events exclusively for wheelchair-bound athletes effective this upcoming season. Read more

Feb 2 CLOQUET - Wednesday was National Letter of Intent signing day for colleges across the United States. In a conference room at Cloquet High School two Lumberjack athletes signed to ply their wares in college. Local Athletes State Bound After Wins At 7A Section Finals
June 3 Early on it looked like the weather would not co-operate, but the rain quit and the skies cleared, making for a good day for runners at the Section 7A track & field finals at UMD. As in the past, the Esko girls team completely dominated the meet with a winning score of 175 points, more than three times as many points as runner up Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin’s 54.5 points. Esko also won on the boy’s side of the meet with a much closer 72.5 points to second place Two Harbors 66 points. Read more
Cloquet's Peterson Breaks Longtime Record
May 25 All records are meant to be broken, however some take longer than others to break. On Tuesday Cloquet Senior Haylee Peterson set herself apart from many years’ worth of Lumberjack distance runners when she broke a 25 year old school record Tuesday. Read more
Esko Boys and Girls Win Polar League Conference Meet
May 19 Total domination is pretty much the way to describe the Esko Girls Track Team’s win at the Polar League Conference meet in Barnum on Wednesday. The Esko girls won 11 of 12 track events and added 3 more wins in the field to capture first place in the girls side of the meet with a whopping 271.5 points to second place Two Harbors 91.5 points. Lady Hawks Win LSC Track Championship
May 17 The Lady Hawks of Hermantown captured the 2011 Lake Superior Conference Championship Tuesday as they outdistanced the Duluth Central Trojans who finished second. Superior was third, Cloquet finished in fourth place while Proctor was fifth, Ashland finished in sixth place and it was Duluth Marshall coming in seventh. Read more
Local Teams Compete In Section 7AA True Team
May 10 A total of 10 boys and 10 girls teams competed in the Section 7AA True Team track meet in Chisago Lakes on Tuesday. Mora won the boys portion of the event and Grand Rapids came away with the victory on the girls side. Locally Hermantown came away with the best team results; that being a fifth place in girls and a sixth place in boys. Read more
Cloquet Hosts Relay Meet
May 7 A different kind of track and field meet was held at Cloquet High School on Friday. Although there were field events and a few dashes, the main event was a bunch of relays. The brainchild of Cloquet Track and Field coach Tim Prosen featured several not regularly seen relays such as a 4x100 meter dash and a 4x100meter hurdles. Read more
Cloquet Boys, Hermantown Girls Win Proctor Invite
May 3 The Hermantown Girls and the Cloquet Boys captured the titles in a boys and girls track meet Tuesday afternoon at Proctor. The Hermantown Hawks finished with 89 ½ points to finish first in the girls meet, Cloquet was second with 51 points, and Proctor finished with 45 ½ points. Read more
Hermantown Girls, Central Boys Win LSC Quad Meet
Apr 12 The Hermantown girls track team took first place honors at the LSC quad track meet at Duluth Central on Tuesday with a score of 94.5 while the host Trojans took first place on the boys side with a dominating score of 125. Read more
Nisius Resigns From UWS Accepts UMD Head Coaching Position
Aug 4 Paul Nisius, the head coach of the Yellowjacket cross country and track and field teams, has resigned his position at UW-Superior to accept the head men's track and field coach position at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Nisius' final day at UW-Superior will be Friday, August 13. Read more
Cloquet Relay Meet A Fresh Change of Pace
May 24 On May 14th Cloquet held a different kind of track meet-- the “Relay Meet.” During this unprecedented competition, kids were able to try new events never heard of before. Cloquet, Esko, Moose Lake-Willow River, Two Harbors, and Proctor track teams participated in this meet. Read more |
