Local Players Compete In Sister Cities Soccer Tournament

  Every year the cities of Duluth, Minnesota and Vaxjo, Sweden host a Sister Cities soccer tournament in a soccer exchange type of setting. The two cities became sister cities in the 1990's when the mayor of Duluth was Gary Doty.

  Ten Northland Volleyball Club Junior teams participated in a tournament last weekend sponsored by the North Country Region of USA Volleyball. Seventy-eight teams competed in age groups from 12 and under to 18’s at various locations throughout the Twin Ports.

Junior Olympic Volleyball Off To A Fast Start

  Former Fond du Lac Thunder head volleyball coach Mike Patenaude has another season of Junior Olympic Volleyball off to a fantastic start. Patenaude, one of the founders of the Northland Volleyball Club, has been coaching and playing volleyball for over 30 years in the area. Again, he is using his knowledge and experience to guide several teams of several age levels in Junior Olympic Volleyball.

Cloquet Invite Set For this Weekend

Golfers from all around the state and country will again converge on the Cloquet Country Club this weekend. The seventy-eighth annual Cloquet Invitational will be held this Friday, July 10th and continue through the weekend finishing Sunday, July 12th late in the afternoon.

Northland Volleyball Club Wraps Up Winter Season

The winter season has officially ended for the Northland Volleyball Club's indoor season. After a long season that began in November, the league’s playoffs in the advanced and intermediate divisions were just now completed. All league games were played at FDLTCC in Cloquet.

Cloquet Eighth Grade Girls Finish 3rd In Pacesetter Tourney

The Cloquet eighth grade girls finished third out of thirteen teams this Saturday in the "region seven" Pacesetter tournament in Eveleth, Minnesota. The girls are now eligible to advance to the Minnesota Invitational Tournament held at St. Benedicts University, June 13th in St. Cloud.

Lexvold Outlasts Langenbrunner to Win Cloquet Invite

CLOQUET- Upon entering Sunday's final round of the 79th annual Cloquet Invitational Jamie Langenbrunner had high hopes of defending his title on his home course. However, Brent Lexvold from Apple Valley withstood the four way tie entering Sunday’s final round to prevail and give him his first championship at Cloquet Country Club.

  DULUTH - Last weekend marked the 34th running of Grandma's Marathon in Duluth. It also was the 20th Annual Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon as well as the 17th Annual William Irvin 5-K Run/Walk.

  Northland Volleyball Club’s Juniors teams participated in the “Head of the Lakes” tournament last weekend at various locations throughout the Northland. The Head of the Lakes tournament is hosted by East End Volleyball and is one of the premier junior’s tournaments of the season.

NVC Volleyball Has Another Banner Weekend

  Northland Volleyball Club hosted the NVC Spring invite at Esko High School this last weekend. Thirty-one teams from all over the Northland participated in 4 different divisions. NVC, who is having their best juniors season on record, dominated the tournament with Gold Division championships in the 18’s, 16’s and 14’s divisions.

CEC Girls Hockey Win Summer Tourney

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team peaked at the right time last winter and returned to the Minnesota State High School hockey tournament. This summer, the team has committed to getting stronger and working on their skill level. That level of commitment came through, giving them a championship victory in a summer hockey tournament in Grand Rapids this past weekend.

Houck Has Strong Finish in Grandmas Marathon

Jennifer Houck, a native of Wright, had a strong showing last Saturday during Grandma's Marathon weekend. Running in the 19th annual Garry Bjorklund half marathon, Houck finished in 11th place with a stunning time of 1:22:08. The winner was Belainish Gebre who registered a time of 1:11:57.

The Northland Volleyball Club was founded in the summer of 1993 in Wrenshall Minnesota by a group of people who were not satisfied with the amount or quality of volleyball available to adults and youth in the Cloquet area. There also was no place locally to play once the outdoor season was over.
