Local Players Shine in DAYBA Border Battle

Apr 11 The second annual DAYBA Border Battle took place Saturday night. It featured some of the best players from Minnesota and Wisconsin squaring off this year at Romano Gymnasium at UMD. The series was again won by Wisconsin in both the boys and girls game, but it was indeed a night where several players shined. Read more
Duluth Stars Win Kernz ANG All-Star Game At The Buzzer
Mar 29 DULUTH - Kolten Karppinen led the Iron Range All-Stars and all scorers with 20 points, including six 3-pointers in Tuesday nights Kernz Army National Guard all-star game at Duluth East. Darcell Williams drove the lane and hit a game winning shot at the buzzer to give the Duluth Area the 91-89 win. Read more
Kernz & Kompany All-Star Basketball Tuesday Evening

Mar 30 The 2010 Kernz & Kompany All-Star basketball games will take place Tuesday March 30 at Duluth East High School. The girls game is scheduled for 6:00pm and the boys game at 8:00pm. Both games will be preceded by a skills competition. Click Here for complete game rosters.
Area Girls Basketball Teams Receive All-Academic Honors

Mar 26 The Cloquet Lumberjacks, Esko Eskomos and Proctor Rails have been named to the All State All-Academic Team for 2010. Proctor and Cloquet are new to this season’s academic role, whereas Esko achieves this honor for the second straight year. Read more
Miss Minnesota Basketball Finalists Announced

Mar 24 The 2009-2010 Miss Minnesota girls' basketball finalists were announced with Barnum’s Katrina Newman selected as one of the five finalists by the Minnesota Coaches Association. Newman helped lead her Bombers to the State Championship in Class A. Read more

Mar 20 BARNUM - Not unlike the state tournament games in Minneapolis, the entire Barnum community turned out to welcome home the 2010 Minnesota Class A Girls State Champions, the Lady Bombers. Read more
Barnum Advances To State Title Game
Mar 19 MINNEAPOLIS - The Barnum Bombers rolled into the state championship game on Saturday with a huge 61-52 semi-final victory over the Parkers Prairie Panthers Friday afternoon at the Target Center. It was Sarah Myhre bombing three second half three-pointers and four clutch free throws down the stretch to distance the Bombers from the Panthers in the eventual nine-point win. Read more
Jessica Newman Hits 1000-Point Plateau

Mar 18 Jessica Newman became yet another Barnum Lady Bomber basketball player to reach the 1000-point level. She now joins her older sister in the elite club. Jessica hit the mark last Friday night in the Section 5A championship game against Sebeka. Read more
Bomber Standout Myhre Choses Northwestern College
Mar 16 Barnum Bomber standout Sarah Myhre has committed to attend Northwestern College in St. Paul where she will attend school and play basketball for the Northwestern Eagles. The decision to attend Northwestern will reunite Sarah with her older sister Megan on the hardcourt once again. Read more
Barnum Girls Headed Back To State
Mar 12 CROSBY - The Barnum Bombers left no doubt in anyone’s mind Friday night that they were the team to beat in the girls state basketball tournament. The Bombers avenged a four point loss earlier this season to Sebeka, by downing the Trojans 82-37. The only other Barnum blemish this season was a loss to New Prague. a class AAA power. Read more
Eskomos March Into Section 7AA Finals
Mar 9 It might be a case of good news, bad news for the Esko girls basketball team following an incredible performance in the Section 7AA basketball tournament on Tuesday night. The Eskomos throttled Deer River 75-38, but now they must face #1 seeded Braham, a team which beat Esko just a month ago. Read more |

Apr 19 Minnesota Breakdown USA has named Randy Myhre as their 2010 Girls basketball coach of the year. They also gave recognition to eight coaches in different classes this year as well. Read more
Three Lady Bombers to Play in Coaches All Star Series

Apr 7 Three seniors from the state championship girls basketball team have been invited to participate in the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches’ Association All-Star series on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th. The series is sponsored by the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association and by the Minnesota Lynx. Read more
Polar League All-Star Basketball Takes Place On Monday
Mar 29 BARNUM – As a final wrap-up to several Northland area senior athletes career, the annual boys and girls Polar League All-Star games were held in Barnum Monday evening. Blue must have been the color of the day as both the boys and girls blue teams won their respective games. Read more
Border Battle Basketball Rosters Announced
Mar 16 The Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association (DAYBA) announced today that they will be sponsoring the DAYBA Second Annual High School Seniors’ “Border Battle” All-Star basketball games. The contests will feature the best high school seniors from Northeastern Minnesota and North Central Wisconsin competing in head-to-head matchups on April 10, 2010 at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Ralph Romano Gymnasium. Mar 23 Barnum’s Katrina Newman added another award to the several she has already achieved in her career. Newman was one of ten players chosen to the 2009-2010 first team all-state. Last season she was named honorable mention. Read more

Mar 21 Three members of the girls Barnum Bomber team were named to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament team for 2010. The All-Tournament team is a special honor recognizing those who exhibited outstanding performances on the court during the girls state basketball tournament. Read more

Mar 18 MINNEAPOLIS - The Barnum Bombers moved one step closer to the ultimate goal of a state championship on Thursday afternoon. They shot down the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans 55-23 to advance to the state semi-finals Friday afternoon at the Target Center. Read more
Eskomos Fall In Section Final Heartbreaker
Mar 11 The Esko Eskomos fell Thursday night at UMD in the Section 7A finals to the Braham Bombers by a score of 58-55. The Bombers defended their Section 7A championship and will return to the 2010 Minnesota State Basketball Tournament for the second straight year.
Bombers Back In Section Finals
Mar 9 MCGREGOR -The Barnum Bombers rolled into familiar settings once again when they downed the Northland Eagles 69-44 and advanced to the section finals Friday night against Sebeka. The matchup in the section finals will be a rematch from earlier this season; Sebeka beat the Bombers 62-58. Read more

Mar 4 In the "win or go home" world of playoff basketball, every possession is important. The Carlton Lady Bulldogs demonstrated that Thursday night when they cut down on turnovers and used a strong second half to blow open their Section 7A quarterfinal matchup against AlBrook 64-42. Read more
Hawks Win On 3-Point Buzzer Beater
Mar 2 Tuesday night’s basketball game between Hermantown and Cloquet was a textbook display of the euphoria of winning and the devastating feeling of defeat. Down by two points, Rachael Hoium hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 48-47 win in the opening round of the Section 7AAA girls basketball playoffs. Read more
Girls Polar Leauge All-Conference Team Announced

Feb 28 Katrina Newman was again named Polar League MVP as she leads the Bombers into the Section 5A playoffs next week. Newman averaged over 22 points per game, shooting 65% from the field. Newman, who also averaged over 9 rebounds and nearly 5 assists per game, was a clear choice as the Polar League MVP. Read more |
