  CLOQUET - The weather was perfect for a fall football game on Saturday when the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College 'Thunder' opened their home season against Minnesota State-Fergus Falls. The Thunder took advantage of the crisp day with some long plays from scrimmage early in the game and then held on for a 34-26 victory over the Spartans.

  CLOQUET - The search to replace longtime Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girl's hockey coach Dick Bartholdi may be nearing a conclusion. A committee who interviewed potential candidates has made a recommendation that assistant coach Mike Bushey take the helm of the program.

  CARLTON- The Carlton Bulldogs opened up their 2010 football season with high hopes and expectations under the direction of first year head coach Dennis Korman. The Bulldogs started strong but ended up falling to the Jaguars of Hinckley-Finlayson Friday night by a final score of 18-14.

  Midway through the 4th quarter of the opening game of the season things looked good for the Cloquet Lumberjack football team.  Just minutes later, the Jacks found themselves on the short end of a 20-19 score, and instead of a victory, they were trying to figure out what happened in their first loss of the season.

  At times it must have felt like the Mesabi East Giants were in the middle of Hurricane Earl during their Thursday night football game against Moose Lake-Willow River. The Rebels pounded out 10-touchdowns much like the anticipation of Earl on the east coast later today and over the weekend as ML-WR stormed to a 75-0 victory at home in Willow River.

  Cloquet started a bit slow in their volleyball match with Barnum on Thursday night at Cloquet High School, but once the Jacks found their stride they pulled away for a convincing 25-17, 25-9 and 25-21 victory over the Bombers.

U.S. Womens U-22 Team Falls To Canada

TORONTO, Ont. - Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) and Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) each scored, but the U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team fell to Canada, 7-2 in the final game of the Women's Under-22 Series on August 21.

Hawks Finish Second In State

  ST. PAUL - The magic for the Hermantown Hawks ended with 1:40 remaining in regulation of the Class A State Championship game on Saturday. The Breck School scored when Hermantown attempted to clear a puck away from the side of their net. The puck bounced off the body of Mustang player Mike Morin and found its way into the net for a 2-1 lead which stood up the rest of the way.
